Grant

The M3 Grant tank was produced by the Americans to a British specification that stated it should be armed with a gun capable of firing a HE shell. The resultant sponson mounted gun design was not pretty but in the short term proved effective enough and made up for the shortcomings of British 2 lb armed tanks that lacked a HE capability. The vehicle and fought in the “Gazala” battles of May 1942 and served until the end of the campaign in North Africa.
